Humalog Insulin Lispro is a synthetic insulin analog that functions similarly to naturally occurring insulin. The pancreas’ beta cells create insulin in healthy individuals. Naturally produced insulin helps absorb blood sugar into the liver, fat, and skeletal muscle cells, thus regulating blood sugar levels. Additionally, it prevents the liver from producing sugar, lessens the sugar released back into the bloodstream, and enables sugar to stay in your body’s cells where it converts to energy to carry out all essential bodily activities.

After the injection, it works in about 15 minutes, reaches peak blood levels in 30 to 70 minutes, and continues to work for around 2 to 5 hours. Usually, it should be taken 15 minutes before your meals but not later than 20 minutes before the meal start.
The class of intermediate-acting insulin analogs includes the long-acting insulin lispro protamine. Protamines, tiny proteins, are included in the formulation of insulin lispro to slow down the onset and lengthen the duration of the insulin action. The activity profile of insulin lispro protamine is similar to that of isophane insulin, a commonly prescribed insulin with an onset of about 90 minutes and a duration of approximately 24 hours.
