What is Basaglar Insulin KwikPen?
Basaglar Insulin Kwikpen is a long-acting insulin that begins to operate a few hours after injection and lasts for the entire day. Pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim, based in Burlington, makes Basaglar. It gives you a base amount of insulin and will help to supplement insulin produced by your body.
What is Basaglar Insulin Kwikpen used for?
Diabetes mellitus of types I and II are primarily managed in adult patients using Basaglar Insulin. However, it is solely recommended for treating type I diabetes in pediatric patients. Basaglar Insulin effectively controls glucose metabolism, which enhances glycemic control in diabetics. Please be aware that Basaglar Insulin does not work to treat diabetic ketoacidosis.
How to use Basaglar Insulin Kwikpen?
Use Basaglar Insulin Kwikpen as instructed. Patients should always read the labels before using Basaglar insulin. In addition, patients should receive proper instruction on how to administer Basaglar injections.
Basaglar Insulin is injected in the stomach area, buttocks, upper legs, or upper arms. Patients should alternate injection locations to reduce the possibility of lipodystrophy. Patients are warned not to combine or dilute Basaglar Insulin because doing so could unpredictably change the drug’s time to peak impact or point of action. In addition, Basaglar Insulin should not be given intravenously or through an insulin pump, as this can result in life-threatening hypoglycemia.
Like many other diabetic drugs, a treatment plan with Basaglar Insulin Kwikpen must include diet, exercise, weight management, and eye, foot, and dental care. Doctors may need to do blood glucose tests frequently while taking Basaglar insulin. In addition, patients should rigorously adhere to their exercise regimens, nutrition, and medication regimen for the best therapeutic outcomes.
How does Basaglar Insulin work?
Basaglar (glargine insulin) controls how glucose is metabolized. To lower blood sugar levels, insulin and insulin analogs stimulate glucose absorption by skeletal muscle and fat. Basaglar insulin simultaneously inhibits the liver’s ability to produce glucose. Insulin promotes protein synthesis while preventing proteolysis and lipolysis.
The pancreas’ beta cells create insulin in healthy individuals. Naturally produced insulin helps absorb blood sugar into the liver, fat, and skeletal muscle cells, thus regulating blood sugar levels. It also prevents the liver from making sugar and lessens the sugar released into the bloodstream. This enables sugar to stay in your body’s cells generating energy to carry out all essential bodily activities.
What is Type 2 Diabetes?
When a person has type 2 diabetes, body cells become resistant to insulin. As a result, your body makes more insulin to force cells to respond. As a result, blood sugar imbalance will rise, leading to type 2 diabetes. High blood sugar can cause serious health problems causing amputation or affecting your heart, vision, and kidneys.
What is Type 1 diabetes?
Type 1 diabetes is an immune system disorder in which the body cannot make insulin or make it in tiny amounts.
What is Basaglar Insulin KwikPen Dosage?
The prefilled 3ml delivery device contains the sterile, colorless injectable solution. Patients receive different doses of Basaglar insulin, ranging from 1 to 80 units. This drug must be administered intravenously once daily and at the same time each day.
For treating Type 1 Diabetes: It is advised to start treating type I diabetes by administering only a third of the daily prescribed insulin dose. The rest of the body’s insulin requirement is fulfilled with short- or rapid-acting insulin.
For treating Type 2 Diabetes: Patients with type II diabetes should start by using 0.2 units/kg (or up to 10 units once daily). While using Basaglar insulin, other diabetes medications, particularly rapid- or short-acting insulin, may require dose and timing adjustments while using Basaglar Insulin Kwikpen.
Basaglar insulin dosage should be altered to account for changes in physical activity, eating habits, and hepatic or renal function (e.g., timing of food intake or macro-nutrient content).

Remember that regular physical exercise is crucial to treating diabetes or managing prediabetes, along with your diet planning, weight management, and medications. Because your cells become more responsive to insulin while you are active, your blood glucose, also known as blood sugar, can be lowered more successfully. Take your medications regularly and follow up with your healthcare specialist.
