Adlyxin Prefilled Pens is made available in two forms

• Injection: 50 mcg/mL in 3 mL solution in a green single-patient-use prefilled pen (for 14 doses of 10 mcg per dose)
• Injection: 100 mcg/mL in 3 mL solution in a burgundy single-patient-use prefilled pen (for 14 doses of 20 mcg per dose)

Adlyxin Prefilled Pens is prescribed, for adults, treating type 2 diabetes (adults) along with proper diabetic diet, exercise, and weight management. Administer 10 mcg of Adlyxin subcutaneously once daily for 14 days and then 20 mcg once daily.

How does Adlyxin (Lixisenatide) work?

Adlyxin (Lixisenatide) is a Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor and works in three ways to control blood glucose.

• It helps the body produce more insulin.
• It helps slow down the liver’s release of sugar into the bloodstream.
• Slows the rate at which food leaves your stomach and passes into the intestine.

You must inform your doctor if you have or have had anyone of the following:

• Pancreatitis, gallbladder stones, or a history of alcoholism.
• Kidney problems.
• Severe problems with your stomach (gastroparesis) or problems with digesting food.
• Pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
• Antibiotics or the pain reliever acetaminophen
• if you take other anti-diabetes medicines, especially sulfonylurea or insulin.

How and when to use this Adlyxin?

Adlyxin improves blood sugar (glucose) control in adults with type 2 diabetes and is an injectable prescription medicine. Adlyxin Prefilled Pens is not prescribed for people with type 1 diabetes. In addition, no research is available to see if Adlyxin Prefilled Pens is safe for children, people with a history of pancreatitis, and people with stomach problems. Therefore, you should always follow your doctor’s advice about taking it.

What is Adlyxin Prefilled Pens dosage

Adlyxin Prefilled Pens (Lixisenatide) is made available in two forms

• Injection: 50 mcg/mL in 3 mL solution in a green single-patient-use prefilled pen (for 14 doses of 10 mcg per dose)
• Injection: 100 mcg/mL in 3 mL solution in a burgundy single-patient-use prefilled pen (for 14 doses of 20 mcg per dose)

Administer ADLYXIN within 60 minutes (1 hour) before the day’s first meal. After that, ADLYXIN should be administered at the same time each day. If patients miss taking the regular dose at the usual time, then take Adlyxin within 1 hour before their next meal.

The ADLYXIN Starter pack includes:

• The green pen contains 14 pre-set doses. Each dose contains 10 mcg of ADLYXIN.
• The burgundy pen has 14 pre-set doses. Each dose contains 20 mcg of ADLYXIN.

You must activate each ADLYXIN Prefilled pens before you use it for the first time. To activate the pen pull off the pen cap and check the pen.

Note: Do not share pens or needles with other people.

How to store Adlyxin Prefilled Pens?

• Store the unused Adlyxin Prefilled Pens in the refrigerator at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C).
• Do not freeze Adlyxin Prefilled Pens, and discard them if they are frozen.
• The medicine is affected by light, so you must protect the pen from light and replace the pen cap after each use.
• After activation Adlyxin Prefilled Pens
  • It should not be refrigerated and left at room temperature less than 86°F (30°C).
  • Must be used within 14 days. Discard pens after 14 days.
  • Do not store the pen with the needle attached.
• Do not use the pen past the expiration date printed on the label of the carton and pen.

What are Adlyxin Warnings and Precautions?

Along with medication, a proper diabetic diet, exercise, and weight management are crucial to controlling your diabetes. In addition, the blood sugar level can change in many situations, like mental stress or other illnesses. Therefore, your doctor may modify your dose.

Adlyxin Side effects

• Severe allergic reactions – Severe allergic reactions can happen with Adlyxin. Stop taking Adlyxin and get medical help immediately if you have any symptoms of a severe allergic reaction.
• Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) – The risk is higher if you use Adlyxin with another medicine that can cause low blood sugar, such as sulfonylurea or insulin. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include headaches, drowsiness, weakness, hunger, fast heartbeat, dizziness, confusion, irritability, sweating, and feeling jittery. Talk with your healthcare provider about how to treat low blood sugar.
• Kidney problems (kidney failure) – Due to diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, people may cause a loss of fluids (dehydration) which may cause kidney problems to get worse.

Other common side effects of Adlyxin:

• nausea
• feeling dizzy.
• vomiting
• headache
• diarrhea

There may be some other possible side effects. Consult your doctor immediately for medical advice about side effects that start to bother you.

Because your cells become more responsive to insulin while you are active, your blood glucose, also known as blood sugar, can be lowered more successfully.
